About Us
I am someone who is absolutely smitten by Airedales and most other Terrier breeds. Terriers are known for their angulated, "square" looking appearance. Since my grooming service is tailored to selected Terrier breeds only, the name "Squaire Dog Grooming" seems fitting. Why the extra "i" in "Squaire" you might ask? Well, it is nothing more than a sentiment to me with Aire-dale having the same pronunciation as Air-dale despite the difference in spelling.
Squaire Dog Grooming is my hobby profession that I do out of my Kitsilano home. I am owned by two Airedale Terriers, Sunshade & Jaffa. Sunshade is my 11 year old girl and her nephew Jaffa, is my 4 year old boy. For the first 6 years of Sunshade's life, she was groomed by professional groomers. However, she had always resented having to be away from me all day, and was often very sad to be left at the groomers. It got to the point where she would refuse to get out of the car once she realized we were at the groomers. Needless to day, it broke my heart seeing her try so desperately to leave with me every time her leash was handed over to the groomer. One day, I decided I wasn't going to fail her ever again. I bought an electric clipper, a pair of straight shears, a pair of thinning shears, and set out to learn how to clip an Airedale. Couple years later, I was blessed with Jaffa, a pup with a beautiful black and tan wiry coat. I became intrigued with handstripping and practiced endlessly on Jaffa and his sister Stella, who lived close by.
While I understand the necessity of caging at most grooming places in order to ensure safety of all dogs. Here at Squaire Dog Grooming, I choose to take in only one dog per day (or two from the same family). By taking less dogs, it eliminates the need for crating all together. Because of what I experienced with Sunshade, I strive to make the grooming experience for all Squaire dogs as positive and stress free as possible.
I hope to have the honor to meet and groom your special Squaire Dog for you
Sincerely,
Elaine
